Home for Christmas
Published in Hardcover by Nautical & Aviation Pub Co of Amer (September, 1997)
Author: Howard Bahr
Average review score:

A wonderful Christmas story for the whole family!
As a former student of Mr. Bahr, I was thrilled to find and order his book at Amazon.com. As soon as it arrived, I sat down and read the entire book in less than 20 minutes. It is a charing tale of two small children finding some happiness and a new home during the difficult Post-Civil war days. This is a story, I will enjoy sharing with my daughter for years to come.

A Home in the Woods: Pioneer Life in Indiana
Published in Paperback by Indiana Historical Society (November, 1991)
Authors: Howard Johnson and Oliver Johnson
Average review score:

Great Learning Experience
I teach high school freshmen in a state-history survey class, and I feel that this book is a great learning tool for that age group, as well as any age-group above. Howard Johnson give the reader a clear understanding of what the midwest was facing at the time of settlement by describing in wonderful details the geography and wildlife, as well as the hardships faced by early pioneers. My students, who usually don't enjoy anything I assign them to read (or at least tell me they don't) - were very perked-up about this novel, and were disappointed when they were through. I feel that they truly learned a lesson about early pioneers and their experience, much as what the "Little House" books did for me when I was 8 years old. It's just a shame that this book is so short. Those in Indiana, esp. the Indianapolis region, will really get a joy of reading this book as it takes place in Marion Co. However, any student of midwestern history, no matter how old will find it just as satisfying.

How Police Officers Get Hired: The Key to Getting the Cop Job and Keeping It
Published in Spiral-bound by Graduate Group (01 October, 1999)
Author: Howard A. Monta
Average review score:

Author's Review
"How Police Officers Get Hired" (Formerly entitled, "Cops Who Succeed") provides insight into the most exciting, most controversial, most scrutinized, and the most important occupation in our society. In addition to vividly describing the public expectations and actual duties of police officers, Chapters One through Four identify the personal qualities of those who are "cut out" to be cops. The application, testing, and training processes are meticulously described. Chapters Five through Eleven describe those elements of the law enforcement profession that cause stress, low morale, and eventual job burnout. Helpful methods of surviving the stress and trauma of police duties are offered. This information is not only directed toward prospective officers, it is also invaluable for experienced officers. The book will never be outdated. Similar requirements and problems that exist for cops today, existed in the 1960s, and will continue to be relevant for generations to come. Thank you for your interest in this important and timely book.

How to Become Dead Rich
Published in Hardcover by Trafalgar Square (September, 1992)
Author: Howard Hodgson
Average review score:

Entreupreneurship in the Thatcher years
Hodgson's first book shrewdly analyses the culture of the Thatcher years with this autobiographical insight into the development of a business from almost bankrupt to the most successful in it's class over just a few years.

Hodgson, with his fanatical attention to detail and total self belief takes us through the turmoil and triumphs of a business not normally associated with glamour. However, this 'should have been a pop star' larger than life Paul McCartney fan shows us how a lot of committment, drive and determination can make any business a success.

Recommended for any would be entrepreneur

Average review score:

A great book for anyone who was ever a kid!
How to eat an animal cracker, from novice to expert. The correct way to eat an Oreo cookie. Mashed potatoes, peas, blowing bubbles in milk. My favorite helpful hint is the care and feeding of the pet goldfish: overfeed and flush down toilet. You will laugh at yourself, and look at the children in your life a little differently.

Comprehensive, Step by Step Instructions
I found the author to be clear, and to the point. He gave step by step instructions, forms and analysis sheets to assist someone who wishes to go into this area. In addition he gave "Hot Tips" or "Author's Notes" throughout the book, giving information about a situation that he had encountered and how to handle it, or just useful information. Book is comprehensive, dealing with foreclosure flips, reos, buying at auction, buying before auction, how to talk to homeowners...MORE! Only one more thing to say: BUY THIS BOOK!

How to Practice Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: The Core Conflictual Relationship Theme Method
Published in Hardcover by American Psychological Association (APA) (April, 1998)
Author: Howard E. Book
Average review score:

Very worthwhile publication
I enjoyed this book immensely. It was refreshing to note that the "brief psychodynamic" perspective detailed by Book did not refer at all to the Freudian model of the psyche (id - ego - superego). Indeed the model presented could as easily have been termed "interpersonal relationship therapy", as there was little to betray its psychodynamic roots. Book had no need for the traditional psychodynamic model in order to use this therapeutic modality so, citing parsimony, he left it out.

How to Protect Your Heart from Your Doctor
Published in Paperback by Capra Press (February, 1995)
Author: Howard H. Wayne
Average review score:

A well-written, informative and unique book.
I thought this is a wonderful book. You won't find this material in other heart books. Dr Wayne's persuasively argues that bypass surgery and angioplasties are overused and abused in the US. Dr Wayne writes well and with evident authority. We need more doctors like Dr Wayne who are willing to speak out and be critical of contemporary medical practice !
